TPU Keeps Clogging? Here’s What Actually Works
TPU is the flexible filament everyone wants to print — and the one that jams the most. The problem isn’t the material, it’s the feed path.
Why TPU jams
TPU is rubbery. In a long Bowden tube (the standard on many printers), flexible filament compresses and kinks instead of pushing through — causing clogs, under-extrusion, and failed prints.
The direct-drive difference
Direct-drive printers push filament straight into the hotend with a short, stiff path — which is exactly what flexible filament needs. If you’re serious about TPU, a direct-drive setup removes most of the pain.
The tool-changer answer
The Bambu Lab H3C takes it further: it supports 2.85mm TPU out of the box through a tool changer, so flexible filament feeds through its own dedicated path. Flexible and rigid materials can even combine in a single print.
Dial it in
Beyond hardware: print TPU slow (20–40mm/s), raise the temp slightly, and reduce retraction to near zero. Those three settings, plus the right feed path, turn TPU from a nightmare into a normal material.
What to buy
Print flexible parts without the clogs.
