Stop Wasting Filament on Multicolor Prints

If you’ve done a multicolor print, you’ve watched a tower of waste plastic grow next to your part. That waste isn’t necessary — it’s a hardware limitation, and there’s now a fix.

Where the waste comes from

A normal printer has one nozzle, so every color change means purging the old color out before the new one flows — a giant blob of discarded filament. On a colorful print, the waste tower can weigh more than the part itself.

Why it’s been accepted

For years the only option was to purge, so people learned to tolerate it — fewer colors, taller waste, more money down the drain. Multicolor was possible, but expensive and slow.

The tool-changer fix

A tool changer like the Bambu Lab H3C keeps nine pre-heated toolheads, each with its own filament loaded. Switching colors takes about six seconds with almost no purge — because the old color never leaves its nozzle. Multicolor becomes fast and nearly waste-free.

The math

If you print in color regularly, the filament you save pays for the printer over time. The H3C is sold direct from Bambu Lab — it’s the flagship, and it’s the one that makes multicolor genuinely practical.
