Amazon Fire HD 10 Review: The Best Cheap Tablet
The Fire HD 10 gives you a full-HD 10-inch screen for under $150. It’s not an iPad — and for the price, it doesn’t need to be.
Overview
The Fire HD 10 is Amazon’s best-value tablet: a sharp 1080p 10-inch screen, solid build, and all-day battery for a price that’s hard to argue with. It’s built for one job — media and reading — and it does it well.
Screen & sound
The 1080p display is genuinely good for streaming and reading. Stereo speakers are a nice bonus at this price. It’s bright enough for indoor use.
Fire OS: the tradeoff
Fire OS is Android underneath but runs the Amazon app store, not Google Play. That means Netflix, Prime Video, and Kindle are first-class — but some Google apps are missing. If you live in Amazon’s world, it’s seamless.
Who it’s for
The Fire HD 10 is for streamers, readers, and anyone who wants a big screen for cheap. It’s also the best kids’ tablet value (the Kids Pro version is excellent). Skip it if you need full Google Play or heavy productivity.
Verdict
Pros
- Excellent value under $150
- Full-HD screen
- Great battery
- Best-in-class kids’ version
Cons
- Amazon app store, not full Play
- Ads on the lock screen (unless you pay to remove)
- Not for heavy multitasking
For pure value, the Fire HD 10 is the best cheap tablet you can buy. It nails the basics at a price nothing else matches.
What to buy
The tablet and the add-ons that complete it.
